The Galen University Eagles won their first ever Association of Tertiary Level Institutions of Belize (ATLIB) basketball championship, blowing away the University of Belize Black Jaguars 70-44 in finals at the San Pedro Junior College on la Isla Bonita on Sunday.
The Eagles led 27-19 at the half. Elvis Usher and Jarrell Velasquez each led in scoring with 13 points. Jamaal Harris, Shelton Defour and Jordan Young-Lamb scored 11 points each, while Daniel Nolberto and Raul Roches scored 9 points each.
UB’s Travis Lennan drained in 3 long treys for 16 points, while Jamir Flores and Fenton Ross scored 6 points each. Uhuru McKoy scored 5 points and Oyinkro Akpobodor tossed in a bucket.
Third place was won by the SJCJC who won 73-70 over the San Pedro Junior College team.
