The 2011 champs Placencia Assassins enjoyed their 2nd win: 3-1 against FC San Felipe Barcelona at the People’s Stadium.
Placencia’s Kareem Haylock put the visitors up 1-0 when he blasted the first goal in the 23rd minute, but team captain Deris “Colombia” Benavides equalized for San Felipe in the 45th minute, and embarrassed Assassins’ goalie Elias Pelayo with a 2nd goal to lead 2-1 in the 48th minute. Then San Felipe’s fortunes took a turn for the worse when their star striker Clifton West was ejected from the ball game with a red card.
Down with 10 men, San Felipe could not keep Haylock from equalizing for the Assassins in the 65th minute. Randy Cassanova and Richard Gillett also came off the San Felipe bench for Joel Padron and Jaziz Wicab, but the Assassins also refreshed their offensive line with Mervin Leslie and Victor Fleitas. Alex Peters scored the winning goal in injury time.
